The Romanticist literary period began in the mid 1700 it was a period where a whole new chapter of writing was created. â€Å"Romanticism witnessed a steady loosening of the rules of artistic expression that were pervasive during earlier times†(Rahn). Hamilton Vs. Jefferson December 29, 2006 by Ando hamjeff.jpg I had intended to post Part II of the WWI question last night, but got caught up doing movie reviews on Life of Ando. So to slake your ravenous historical thirst in the meantime, here is my assignment from my history class this past week. If you’re really into American history and how the politics of the early Republic shook out, Jefferson vs. Hamilton is a great study. It’s also a little, I guess comforting, to know that as bad as we think today’s politicians are, politics was always a very dirty game. Like Bismarck said, â€Å"Laws are like sausages. Better to not see them being made.† And as Ecclesiastes says, â€Å"There’s nothing new under the sun.† 1) How did the political†¦show more content†¦However, without Hamilton’s counter-balance Jefferson’s policies may have left the government weak and ineffectual to deal with major crises both at home and abroad. Each viewpoint needed the other to create a government that would be strong enough to protect itself and it’s people from internal and external strife, but not so strong that it would infringe on the rights of the people as enumerated in the Bill of Rights and in the Revolutionary spirit. These issues, of course, weren’t resolved or ceased to be relevant after Hamilton and Jefferson left the scene. These are still very much the issues we deal with even now, over 200 years later. As much as we might dislike, or even hate, the position of the â€Å"other† party, without some balance both sides would undoubtedly abuse their power†¦more than they already do. 4) List at least 3 sources in proper bibliographic format. Discovering Eden free essay sample

There are twenty-six letters in the alphabet, more than four-hundred-and-fifty thousand words in a standard English dictionary, and seemingly endless ways to turn them all into something meaningful. Words are one of the few things everybody seems to understand and use without ever touching, smelling, or tasting . It seems that most people are content with seeing words and accepting them as one-dimensional and static. I am not. I’ve come to believe that there is something like the Garden of Eden in everyone’s mind, and that is where words really live. I’m not referring to the occasional â€Å"A† found under a rock or the â€Å"Z† hanging lazily from a branch, I’m talking about the words that dangle from a forbidden tree. It has become my goal to open up that garden gate, and follow the vine-covered path until I reach that tree. I want to touch my red, round soul and sink my teeth into it, letting the juice run down my chin and making my finger s sticky. We will write a custom essay sample on Discovering Eden or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page I want to find words for myself, ones that I’m so sure of that I am never afraid of a blank page again. I found the gate to my garden sometime back in middle school. Let me begin by saying, I hardly even remember what it felt like to be the person I was those short five years ago. But I do remember that I was nervous all the time, scared of almost everything, and dreaded going to school every day. The one thing that got me through each day was English class. It wasn’t that English class was terribly interesting, but it was something that I understood and it was safe. I didn’t always get the best grade on a mundane vocabulary test, but I lived for those few creative writing assignments. I don’t remember the first poem I ever wrote or the grade I got on it, but I remember what it felt like the first time I saw my thoughts on paper. It was real and I felt like I could touch it, like I could finally see a part of myself that nobody else could. The gate was locked but I could reach through the bars and run my hands over the trees, slowly peeling words from their trunks and slipping them quietly into my pocket. From that point on I have loved words. I would like to think that I have changed and that is why my words have changed, but I know the truth is that words changed me. I eventually climbed over the gate and wandered through the garden, finding some things I never wanted to and others that amazed me. Words have allowed me to search for myself in ways I didn’t know were possible. In five years I have written over two hundred poems and countless scribbles that define who I am. In that time I have also abandoned my fears and grown to become easy-going and somewhat peaceful with myself. I cannot use three adjectives to describe myself, but anyone who wants to know who I am wouldn’t have to walk further than my bedroom doorway. There are poems hanging from my walls, strewn across my floor, and piled in every corner and empty space. I probably come across as a pack-rat or slob, but I know that those papers are anything but junk. A lot of people would say that I’m  "good† at English or â€Å"smart† when it comes to words, but I think everyone is brilliant in the same way. I firmly believe that there is something worth writing down in every last person, and the chances I get to see what is truly inside a person are chances I savor. It may seem like I have myself pretty well figured out, that I know my way around the garden and can call every fruit and animal by a name. But the truth is that I am still trying to figure it all out. I think I know myself better than most people my age, but I also think that I have a lot to learn. I am content to wander, to write when something catches my attention or I just want to listen to myself. I like to think that when I write something that I truly feel it rains in the garden. I like to stand under that forbidden tree and turn my head up to my soul, letting the rain drip off it’s shiny surface and land gently on my tongue.

Disney and the Hercules Motif Essay Example For Students

Disney and the Hercules Motif Essay When one thinks of Disney and fairytales, Hercules does not come to mind automatically. For one, this is because the protagonist is a male. Another, the â€Å"Damsel in Distress† seems very independent. Although Hercules has some differences it is classified as a fairytale because it still has motifs. In the movie Hercules there is a family member that is full of hatred towards another family member, a male and female fall in love, and someone or something guides the protagonist to his dream. In every fairytale that comes to mind, there is a protagonist and antagonist. Customarily these people are related. It is commonly seen in most Disney fairytales that the mother has extreme hatred towards the daughter and sometimes even desires to kill her. In Hercules, it is slightly different however, hate still runs in the family. Hercules’s Uncle, Hedes, hates Zeus (Hercules father) because he is a G-d and the ruler of the Heavens. Hedes is the ruler of the under world which is other known as being the ruler of the dead. However, Hercules is the one that is stopping Hedes from accomplishing gaining the control of the Heavens. â€Å"Hades horrid plan was hatched before Herc cut his first tooth† (Hercules). Thus, Hedes desires to kill Hercules. This is not the only motif visible in Hercules falling in love is seen quite frequently in fairytales. Love is a feeling one cannot control. It is like a cold; anyone can catch it. Two characters falling in love is frequently seen in fairytales. These two people are commonly known as â€Å"The Damsel in Distress† and the man that saves her. Meg and Hercules are these two special lovebirds. Meg is the beautiful damsel that is forced to use the power of temptation to distract Hercules from being the hero. She is secretly under Hedes control, the family member mentioned above. Meg sings a song in the movie called â€Å"I Won’t Say I’m In Love† illustrating that she is in love with Hercules. Hercules does not have a song about being in love but he demonstrates it by his googly eyes. Another motif seen is that there is someone who guides the protagonist to achieve his or her dream. As seen in Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Pocahontas, etc. there is a Fairy G-d Mother or some creature that helps the main character toward achieving their dream. In Hercules, this figure is Phil. Hercules dream is to prove himself a hero so he can become a G-d, the species he was born as. Phil trains him physically night and day to be outrageously strong and to have exquisite technique. This combined helps Hercules to defeat the obstacles schemed by Hedes and become a G-d. Even though Hercules has many differences when compared to the rest of the Disney fairytales, there are motifs that can still be found. A family member is jealous of another family member and wants to kill him as seen in most fairytales. True love is relevant in this movie as well. In addition, there is someone to guide the protagonist to his or her dreams. Bibliography: Work Cited Ryan, Roz, Cheryl Freeman, LaChanze, Vaneese Thomas, and Lillias White. The Gospel Truth III. President Richard Nixons Administration essays

President Richard Nixon's Administration essays January 20, 1969, Richard Nixon was sworn in as the thirty-seventh president of the United States. Nixon's vice-president was Spiro T. Agnew. His work as president started weeks earlier before he even took office. Those weeks were spent choosing the people who would be in his cabinet. In 1969, one of the most urgent businesses facing him was finding a way to end the Vietnam War without allowing the government of South Vietnam to be defeated by Communists. Nixon decided to drop bombs on Cambodia. Some of the people in Congress were upset with his decision, saying that it seemed that he was making the unpopular war more widespread. Nixon answered that he was only trying to end the war swiftly. A year later he orders troops to invade some areas in Cambodia where Communist troops were hiding in the jungle. This invasion started huge anti-war protests all over the United States. College students did most of the protesting destroying many college campus buildings by setting them on fire. The problem with the Communists in Vietnam had been passed to Nixon by the three presidents before him, in which none of them could solve the problem. Another thing was the economy of America. Inflation was at very high levels. People were losing their jobs. Nixon, unlike any ot her Republican president, made a big announcement on August 15, 1971. The prices of all good and service and the wages of most Americans would freeze for ninety days. During the ninety days, stores could not raise the prices of any items sold in the store. Also, workers could not ask for raises or higher salaries. After the ninety-day period, Nixon asked all Americans to follow the changes in the prices and the salaries very carefully. This request to the people, sounded like Nixon was trying to run the United States like a Communist government. After World War II ended, no American president had visited a Communist nation while in office. Nixon ended t...

The Tree of the Wooden Clogs Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

The Tree of the Wooden Clogs - Essay Example More specifically, this tackles Olmi's and his movie's ability to share history and the impact that it has created to his viewers. More so, this answers the following questions: "The Tree of Wooden Clogs" is a movie which theme is focused with the peasants' experience during the 18th century, when tenant farmers worked for landlords under feudal relationship. Work, then is very important. It serves as the totality of these farmers' lives. Different household scenarios are shown in this movie. Scenarios, which some will still be familiar because they are still happening today, and scenarios which people of today's generation will consider as unthinkable. Typical farming activities such as the growing and harvesting of crops, and breeding and slaughtering of animals are shown in this movie. Moreover, typical housewives' such as washing of used clothes from dusk until dawn, taking care of the children (despite lack of proper food). There are also scenes wherein a child was shown walking several miles just to attend school, and one wife is shown being advised by a priest to give her son to some orphanage because she cannot maintain providing her son with proper food, clothing and education. These are the scenes that could either break the hearts of the viewers or make them feel bored and weary for they will think that it tells nothing but hardship and pains. The Unfolding of History History can be told by sharing all the success and victories of one personality, hero or group of people who have defended a country or who have provided a big impact to the majority of the populace. In this movie, the other part of life is being highlighted. Important personalities or heroes are not that important because what has happened and how that happened is what matters the most. This movie is a good venue or modern people like us to have a clearer picture of how it is to live during the olden times. This give the whole idea that life before is not just pure wars, territorial fighting, political indifferences, nor battles between race and skin color. This movie give us an idea that life itself was a big battle for the many farmers in Italy before. Because of this, this movie is able to reach a larger number of audiences. Though it talks mainly of what is happening in Italy, many other nations would be highly interested to watch this for this movie is disclosing some information which is not normally disclosed and discussed upon. In subtle yet powerful words, scenes and actions, a certain part of Italian history has been told through this move. And the director and writer of this movie should be highly applauded. The authors and writers of this move are not known historians. They are not even part of the history they have been disclosing, but do we need to be that way first before we can share something that we know of about history. Anybody can put history into writing. Anybody has the right to share what has happened
